YOU have the power: SUPPORT OUR SPORT!

The USA will not win a medal in any distance events at the 2012 London Olympics without you! Your active participation in the organization is vital to the success of USA Track & Field.
The 2010 USATF Annual Meeting in Virgina Beach, VA was a wonderful opportunity to meet some of the greatest track & field names and minds in America. However, after sitting through numerous lively meetings coupled with multiple sidebar conversations it became evident there is a very real need for more help in our sport. USATF, a volunteer driven organization, lacks active participation from millions of Americans who are passionate about Track & Field, Road, Trail, and Cross Country running.  Currently USATF only has over 100,000 members -- which is great! But that is only a microscopic number of those who love our sport as much as you and I.
At the convention, the interim CEO of USATF reported that "the state of our sport is fine." And I agree, the state of our great sport it is indeed "fine." Those who are involved with USATF are amazingly dedicated and intelligent people whose enthusiasm for the sport is incredibly infectious and has keep our organization running "fine" for a long time. There is no shortage for excitement and competency currently in the ranks of USA Track & Field. The biggest lacking is our numbers . In order for the state of our sport to go from "fine" to great only one thing is needed: YOU!
If you are reading this blog you must care about the sport. Most likely you go for a run every day, have a demanding job, as well as several other commitments. You are busy. But being busy doesn't need to be a barrier for taking that first step to actively participate in USATF. You are needed because if USATF is going to thrive it will take your ideas, your passion, your work, and  you to be intimately involved!
If you love track & field, running on the roads, trails or cross country, then you are the one who needs to act today!
If you are not moved to support our sport, then no one will. Just like going for a run in 37 degree weather and steady rain - it will take a lot of courage and motivation to start, but once you get going it will be a magnificent experience! USATF needs you to lace up your helping shoes and get out the door because you, and only you, have the power to change our sport for the better!
If you want to help the USA win medals at the 2012 London Olympics then take the first step and contact me (by email or phone) about getting involved in USATF so we can work together to make the state of our sport GREAT!
Respectfully,
Jonathan Marcus
