Rainy day tales: Galen Rupp, Alan Webb and the second floor ‘runway’ in the Mia Hamm Building

There have been days in western Oregon his month when the rain seems to have no beginning or end. It just keeps coming, morning til night.
Tuesday, the sky was the color of ash and the precipitation was incessant.
At Nike, the parking lots were empty. Employees are still on break for the holiday.
On days like this, when Alberto Salazar needs a place for his athletes to work out, he brings them to the second floor of the Mia Hamm Building. There is a long, interrupted corridor here — long enough to run 200-meter intervals on carpet while staying dry.
Galen Rupp has run here since he was in high school. On Tuesday, he was joined by Alan Webb....rest of article here.

Run Yourself Ugly!
Brian Livingston of Los Angeles, CA recently created a product review of his Nike running footwear collection on his facebook page. As we all know, the test of a good running shoe is how well it performs, not necessarily how cool it looks. Brian's Run Yourself Ugly campaign allows us full disclosure on the quality NIke's 2010 holiday running footwear as he tests the durability and functionality of your favorite Nike trainers.

Kualoa Ranch - Ka'a'awa, HI -
Max King found the perfect cure for a sickness – win the XTERRA Trail Run World Championship.
Despite running with flu-like symptoms, King won the XTERRA Trail Run World Championship for the third consecutive year today at Kualoa Ranch. King, who is from Bend, Oregon, completed the 12.9 mile course in 1 hour, 16 minutes, 36 seconds.
“I didn’t even know if I was going to make it to the race this morning, let alone win,” said King, 30. “I had a headache, my fever was going down, but I still felt terrible. But when I got here and started running on the course, I was surprised that I felt a lot better than I thought I would. I guess after all these years, running makes me feel pretty normal.”
When it comes to running XTERRA Trail Run Championship races, King is beyond normal. He is now 6-0 in the last six major XTERRA trail run races – three consecutive victories in the national championship race, and now three consecutive wins in the world championship race...[rest of the article here]

YOU have the power: SUPPORT OUR SPORT!
The USA will not win a medal in any distance events at the 2012 London Olympics without you! Your active participation in the organization is vital to the success of USA Track & Field.
The 2010 USATF Annual Meeting in Virgina Beach, VA was a wonderful opportunity to meet some of the greatest track & field names and minds in America. However, after sitting through numerous lively meetings coupled with multiple sidebar conversations it became evident there is a very real need for more help in our sport. USATF, a volunteer driven organization, lacks active participation from millions of Americans who are passionate about Track & Field, Road, Trail, and Cross Country running. Currently USATF only has over 100,000 members -- which is great! But that is only a microscopic number of those who love our sport as much as you and I.
At the convention, the interim CEO of USATF reported that "the state of our sport is fine." And I agree, the state of our great sport it is indeed "fine." Those who are involved with USATF are amazingly dedicated and intelligent people whose enthusiasm for the sport is incredibly infectious and has keep our organization running "fine" for a long time. There is no shortage for excitement and competency currently in the ranks of USA Track & Field. The biggest lacking is our numbers . In order for the state of our sport to go from "fine" to great only one thing is needed: YOU!
If you are reading this blog you must care about the sport. Most likely you go for a run every day, have a demanding job, as well as several other commitments. You are busy. But being busy doesn't need to be a barrier for taking that first step to actively participate in USATF. You are needed because if USATF is going to thrive it will take your ideas, your passion, your work, and you to be intimately involved!
If you love track & field, running on the roads, trails or cross country, then you are the one who needs to act today!
If you are not moved to support our sport, then no one will. Just like going for a run in 37 degree weather and steady rain - it will take a lot of courage and motivation to start, but once you get going it will be a magnificent experience! USATF needs you to lace up your helping shoes and get out the door because you, and only you, have the power to change our sport for the better!
If you want to help the USA win medals at the 2012 London Olympics then take the first step and contact me (by email or phone) about getting involved in USATF so we can work together to make the state of our sport GREAT!
Respectfully,
Jonathan Marcus
