Start of 2010 Stumptown XC race #1 at Portland Meadows
Who’s ready for fall? Probably none of us, but tomorrow is the last day of summer, which means fall begins soon – and the kick off of the Stumptown Cross series is hot on its heals.
Don’t worry, race #1 of the cross country series will break you in easy. It is a 5K race out at Portland Meadows, and is fairly flat (there are a few little rollers buit into the course) and is on grass for the most part. And because the week leading up to the race is going to be dry and summer-like, my guess is that your shoes will likely stay dry and clean (unfortunately). But don’t worry, this is only the first of 4 races in the Stumptown Cross series, so there will be plenty of opportunities for mud to come.
As part of USATF's effort to support Association-based programs, as well as the development of the Open Club system, a travel grant program will be offered in 2011. Each Association will be eligible to offer the winning open men's and women's teams at their 2011 Association Cross Country Championships a $500 stipend for travel expenses to the 2011 USATF National Club Cross Country Championships in Seattle, Wash.
